Some of you were concerned about GYM's "Fever to Future" dropping to #2 on the Oricon singles daily ranking so quickly. You needn't have worried. There is never any doubt that "Fever to Future" would land on #1 on the first day. I worry more about how long it will stay there (3 days, as it turned out), and how many copies it will sell in the long run.
If you take a look at Yamapi's history of singles releases (with NEWS, Shuuji to Akira, and solo), you would know that they have all gotten #1 on the weekly rankings. This is largely due to Yamapi's popularity. Even though I love NEWS as a unit, as most of you do, I have to say NEWS sell because of Yamapi. This is not to say the other members make no contributions to the group or have no fanbase; only, since Yamapi was the leader of Johnny's Jr. then, he was the one fans wanted the most. If you're new to Johnny's and ever wonder why Yamapi gets the most attention and screentime on TV or most pages on magazines for NEWS related events, that's your answer. Of course, now I can honestly say NEWS sell because it's made up of members who stand out on their own, support each other, and have strong bonds.
Shuuji to Akira's "Seishun Amigo" sells extremely well because it is made of -THE- two most popular idols from Johnny's Jimusho. Then, and now. Here I'll state I'm excluding people outside of You&J and Johnny's Jr., in case conflicts were to arise regarding previously debuted groups. Yamapi is the icon for NEWS, while Kamenashi Kazuya is the unofficial leader for KAT-TUN (ironically I used to assume that was Akanishi Jin's role). And of course the song itself is great. So is the PV, the dance, etc...
Lastly, Yamashita Tomohisa's solo sells. I've already explained why earlier. In fact, Johnny's Jimusho is so intent on making more money on Yamapi that we fans will be crying with joy soon (also sorrow at how wallets will be empty) from the amount of Yamapi-related merchandises that are to come. Aside from the "Kurosagi" DVD box, the 1998 drama "Shounen-tachi" will finally be released on DVD. I hope this means they'll be releasing "P.P.O.I." as well, for I've been waiting for that since 1999. There is also plans for a new Yamapi DVD and music CD (release dates and content yet unknown). I suspect it has something to do with his 10th year anniversary in Johnny's, and of course his recent spike in popularity that makes him known to people outside of the usual fangirls. A Yamashita Tomohisa photobook will also be released on September 15th... making this his second one, if including the Four Tops photobook.
So, you ask, why did "Fever to Future" drop so quickly? Simple. Most of the loyal Yamapi fangirls are not going to risk missing out on the limited edition CD. They probably sent in pre-order slips before the stores are ready! I mean, have you seen how fast the pre-orders for the limited edition CDs sold out online when it first became available? Then sold out a second time after the stores replenished its stock? The available limited edition copies you see now are restocked after the initial pre-orders rush. That alone guarantees a #1 spot on Oricon's singles daily rankings. Now that all the fangirls are done, it's up to the general public to keep GYM on #1. It may have worked, only Amane Kaoru comes along with "Taiyou no Uta." Singles with songs used in TV dramas get that extra boost as promotions so tend to sell well, and this is no exception. It's one of those singles that people see in the stores and buy before they walk out. So while "Fever to Future" pulls in most of its sales by pre-orders, "Taiyou no Uta" is the type that gains its sales gradually.
But! With only one week's time, "Fever to Future" sells more copies than "Taiyou no Uta." Fear those pre-orders! There should be a saying, if it doesn't already exist: "Don't underestimate the power of fangirls." :P
Oricon Singles Weekly Ranking: [info posted on 2006.09.05]
#1 GYM "Fever to Future" (226,000 copies sold)
#2 Amane Kaoru "Taiyou no Uta" (150,000 copies sold)
...and so on.
PS. Not related to rankings, but Koichi is LOVE! On GYM's 2006.09.03 appearance on "Shin Domoto Kyoudai," he asks Yamapi out of the blue, "but aren't you in NEWS?" XDDDD Like I said, LOVE.

Oooh, I love that show, it's so funny even though I don't understand Japanese. D: I'm hoping someone will sub that ep. *crosses fingers*

Koichi and his snarky sense of humor. ♥
Unless the people on A-Baka are lying, Shounen Tachi and PPOI are in fact the same thing. CDJapan doesn't list it as PPOI, but the cast is Yamapi and Aiba, so it has to be the same thing.
...then again, they have the broadcast year as "1988." =/ And I can't believe it's 11400 yen. O_o
WHAT IS THIS ABOUT A YAMAPI DVD AND MUSIC CD!? *dies and watches money float away*

"Shounen-tachi" is the only drama of Yamapi's that I've yet to seen, so I'm really looking forward to it. It's also his very first.
Whereever you see "1988" made a typo. It should be 1998. Aside from the fact that I know "Shounen-tachi" was aired in 1998, it just isn't possible for Yamapi, age 3, to be acting in any sort of drama. XD

I've seen PPOI, but not Shounen Tachi then. Interesting!
Yeah 1988 is definitely a typo.

That sound you hear is me becoming a Koichi fangirl. ♥ ♥ ♥

Is this small voices I hear coaxing me to do a KinKi Kids pimp post?

I suppose I could try to do one. It'd be easier than V6 (less people!). But it might not be that comprehensive, I'm a pretty new KinKi fan myself.
I COULD SHOW EVERYONE HOW GAY THEY ARE?! \:D/
no subject
KK IS VERY VERY VERY GAY. And not like, flamboyantly gay (...unless you count that one clip where they got in metallic dresses and spanked each other AHAHAHA) but just, woe, these two guys are never going to date anyone that is not themselves, ever. XD
no subject
THEY ARE SO GAY AND IT IS SUCH <3. It's kind of a subtle and friendly gay though. Like they walk around holding hands and things.
That clip with the metallic dresses SCARRED me. Like that should NOT be one of the first things a new fan sees...

There's no KinKi Kids lj comm though, so I can't pimp it there. D:

I didn't think there was one. YAY FOR KINKI LOVE! ♥

I was really surprised that there wasn't a community for KK, but there was one for Tsuyoshi. The next time I checked, the KK community was born. :x
Now all we need is a solo one for Koichi. XD *adores him*no subject
I'm an awful mod though. D:

Every single time I watch that clip, I always hope that the girl will pull down the sheet, instead of pulling it up. ;~;

And you know, if he's silly enough to sleep naked in a hotel when cameras could be around...maybe he deserves it? XD
no subject
Actually, I've heard that he sleeps naked regularly. And walks around naked, too. XD; And that he and Nagase have seen each other naked. (Yes, my whole world revolves around facts such as these--and facepalming over the fact that Koichi washes his ice, wtf. XDXD)
no subject
I've heard that, too. Nagase and Kochi's are like BFF's, right? Every year at Countdown Koichi does like a running jump into his arms. If there wasn't Tsuyoshi, I'd like Nagase/Koichi.
And I love how Tsuyoshi calls him "Nagase-baby."
...I can't explain the ice washing. Nor is love for F1.
no subject
pervinggleeing happily. :D (See, this is the way to convert more people to KK. Just tell them that Koichi regularly goes around naked. XD)Yeah, Koichi and Nagase are BBF's apparently. They also share a love for the racing cars. XD I heard that Tsuyoshi has to make them stfu when they start talking about racing since... they tend to ramble. (Ditto goes for hosts on talk shows when Koichi gets on that subject. Poor thing. XD ♥) ...I've actually been wanting to write Nagase/Koichi lately, especially since I finally got the Koichi/Ryo done. *considers*
Tsuyoshi is just... special. XD
Koichi is also just... special. KK is just special in general, but that's why I love them so much. ♥
no subject
Well, Tsuyoshi likes to talk about fish. So I suppose he can't say anything about Koichi and Nagase's racing talk.
OMG WRITE THAT PAIRING! Any KK fanfiction is good.
no subject
Tsuyoshi also likes talking about his dog, so yes--I agree that he doesn't have room to talk about Koichi and Nagase and their love for race cars. XD;
I shall then. XD

And for those of you who like him, he has an album out on September 13th! :D?
And yay for GYM! ♥

Anyhow..one thing I gotta say. WOW, you are just amazing. With your sources and everything. Thanks for the info naa =]
Amazing. Pipi DVD & CD AND photobook? I think that's great that all of these merch are releasing, due to his 10th anniversary in JE. My godd September's a crazy month.

I've wanted to talk about the Oricon thing for awhile. Someone made a comment on one of the communites (don't remember which X_x) about GYM getting daily ranking #1 like it was a surprise, though to me it's more to be expected. Another person elsewhere said if we can still buy limited editions of the CD online it must not be selling very well. I guess I want to clear things up. ^^; What better time than now when I have the actual CD sales figures?
Most of these info can be found easily on Japaese official and/or fansites and magazines. I didn't do anything except read and then filter specific info here. :P
Apparently it's a music DVD? God I hope they include every one of his performances from Shounen Club to NEWS concerts. And lots of backstage private stuff please. There are no release dates for the DVD or the CD though, so they're more in the planning stage.
no subject
Ehhh? Did someone really say that? It was definitely expected for me as well that GYM would land at #1. I don't understand how it could be a surprise to anyone. Maybe it's due to Golf & Mike being newly introduced to the Japanese.
Oh ic, but then again, I don't understand Jap, so I wouldn't know where to look for these info. lol so thanks for posting back with these info. =]
It still sounds absolutely awesome to me. I really do hope they include all his solo song performances that hasn't been out on CD yet. And def. perfs from SC and NEWS concerts.
Backstage footages are love. I loved the Summary04 one ;]
Btw, I'm just wondering, but why don't you post anything on your LJ? lol I'm just curious 'cause I wanted to get to know you a bit better.
no subject
I don't post on my LJ because it's unnecessary. When I do have something to say, it's information I want to share with the rest of the fandom(s) so I only need to post to communities. There's no point posting on my LJ when no one will be around to read it. If I do post on my LJ and somehow people start reading it, they might expect me to post regularly. Wandering around communities are time-consuming enough, so I simply don't have the time to spend on maintaining a LJ.

And thanks Lol

I still have a few Pi dramas to watch. (Kabachitare, PPOI, Shonen-tachi, and Sore wa..., plus the little dramas he's acted in as well. I haven't watched all of Stand Up!! or Lunch Queen either.)
no subject
I'm even more biased about "PPOI" because it's based on my favorite shoujo manga (at the time). Contrary to "Kabachitare," which won my love through the superior acting, "PPOI" is good simply because it's such crack. I think even if Yamapi acts like a statue throughout I would still like it. :PP
"Sore wa..." is very weak story-wise, so I would only recommend it if you want the eye-candy. I probably won't have been able to finish watching it if not for Yamapi, who is at his prettiest here.
Personally I don't like "Stand Up!!" and "Lunch Queen." As much as I love Nino and Yamapi's characters in the first one, the story just doesn't agree with me. The kids are stupid, and the parents not much better. "Lunch Queen" has a weak ending and features the love-polygon relationship I hate the most (where everyone falls in love with the heroine), so no amount of Yamapi will make me like it. Plus, he was in his anorexic period for the filming of this drama so it's really painful to watch him. X_x
no subject
I haven't finished watching much of Stand Up!! and Lunch Queen I have the last episode to see. I have only watched one episode of Sore wa... So far, I love every single Pi drama. I'm just easy to please. Haha.
no subject
I agree that "Long Love Letter" makes you really want to know the ending. It was sad that things don't turn out the way people want them to, but that very last scene was love.
Heh. I can say I love Yamapi in every drama, just not necessarily the drama themselves. :P
