A brief introduction on this new addition to the community:
There were some pieces of news that some mods thought would be nice to share, but didn’t quite warrant entire posts by themselves. That’s how this idea came up. However, even within us, it was tough trying to agree on what should or should not be included - things that matter to some may not to others, what’s sensitive to some may not be to others. It’s also hard drawing the line between gossip and news.
To begin, we decided to make weekly posts on little things we came across and may be of interest to members of the community. This is really just something in an experimental stage - we may find this hard to keep up when the boys go all quiet, or if it turns out that these updates are redundant to the majority of the community. Everything is open to feedback, so let us know your thoughts.
What we will not include - rumours, gossip, complete updates of paid content etc.
Here goes post number 1, we hope this helps those who want to know more about NEWS, but can’t afford the time to keep up!( updates under the cut! )
It's the time of the year when we celebrate our dear leader again, who turns 33 on May 1st. This year looks set to be another busy one for him with 24hr TV for the second year straight, so let's hope he takes good care of himself!
Never too late to send well wishes, so for those who'd like to send him physical cards/ letters, here's the new address for Johnny's Family Club (they moved in October last year, so please check to make sure the address you have is the updated one):
4F 3-29-24 Shibuya
Shibuya-ku, Tokyo, JAPAN 150-8550
Johnny's Family Club
Do avoid sending anything more than cards/ letters as these might be seen as gifts and get discarded or returned by the agency.
We'll also be leaving this as a sticky post for a week, so please keep all the birthday wishes to the comments section of this post! :)
Please join me in welcoming our new community Mod/Maintainers who will be joining me (inala) in tending and managing news_jpop - massu74, 9kinds and ki_el.
Many thanks to everyone who responded to the call to help keep this community going. It’s very clear that this is a special place for many NEWS fans and it is an important duty to keep it active for current and future fans.
The new mod team has many ideas for ways to develop and improve the community so please stay tuned for updates.
The most recent change has been to add a community calendar which holds major NEWS related anniversaries as well as tracking upcoming activities for the group and the members. You’ll always find at the top of the links in the sidebar or access it directly here.
If you need to contact the mod team we also have a new email address: firstname.lastname@example.org.
So without further delay - a few words of introduction from our new mods!
This community was pretty much my main source of information when I first got into the fandom and barely knew any Japanese. Without the community, I would never have gotten to know so much about the members, so this is really just my turn at giving back. I've never done anything like this before, which means there may be some hiccups along the way, but hopefully we can make this community one that all fans - new and old - can find information easily and share their love for NEWS again.
Hello! My name is Cara and I’ve been a NEWS fan since seeing them at Countdown in 2014/2015. I’m excited to help with moderating the news-jpop community and keeping everything on-topic and up-to-date.
Hi everyone. My name is Ki, I'm from Germany and I've been a NEWS fan (obsessed with KoyaShige) for almost a decade now. This lj community has always been one of my primary sources of information and I'm very happy to be given the opportunity to keep it active and alive. I'll be doing my best! ^_^
I have recently been assigned as the new maintainer of this community but I am already so busy with my other livejournal responsibilities that I won’t be able to take care of news_jpop by myself.
You will notice a new, temporary community header and work has started on updating the community profile page. The information about NEWS has not been added to for a number of years and is still missing much information about their current activities.
So I am looking for volunteers to help support NEWS and maintain this community. Volunteers should be willing to help clean up spam as well as contribute in keeping the community up to date. Anyone interested please contact me via PM (and please be sure that your journal settings allow messages to be received.)
It is my hope that we can make this community an active and happy place for NEWS fans once again.
I would like to extend my thanks to ALL OF YOU for providing me such insightful ideas and opinions regarding posts about our ex-members, especially with Yamapi. I know the majority of us are still a little shaken up with the situation, but I am sure with time, we will come to accept the situation and continue our never-ending support for our boys. To those who have [moved on], I ask you to please give some time for the others because it hasn't been easy for them.
I've conversed and commented with most of you and it has helped me a lot towards making this decision. I know we've made decisions in the past based on majority rules. However, for this situation, I needed to consider the minority as well because 80+ people is certainly a large amount of people, if you think about it. That's enough to knock over a coffee shop! :P
(lame) Jokes aside, it seems to me that most people who voted to completely take off posts about ex-members don't seem to mind Option 4, which is "Important Announcements." Additionally, some of them do not mind the weekly updates about ALL ex-members. That way, Yamapi wouldn't be hogging the majority of our update feeds. I know this decision is technically based on majority rules (and slightly contradictory), but, it seems to me that some people don't mind the 'once-a-week' posts. At least that's only one out of the many updates that you can scroll past, right?
With that, I propose that we have a weekly/bi-weekly post regarding all updates about our ex-members. With Ryo, there is no need to post Kanjani8 news because there's already a community dedicated to that group. If he is starring in a drama or releasing a solo, that would be appropriate. As for Uchi, it is the same as Ryo's situation. If nothing is going on with any of them FOR THE WEEK, then we simply won't make a post for that week. I don't want to offer any more explanations because I don't want to confuse you all. If you have any questions, feel free to comment and ask!
Weekly posts will be posted every Friday, starting on December 2nd 2011 or even later than that. I still need to organize this at the moment so please bear with me. NO MORE POSTS ABOUT YAMAPI OR OTHER EX-MEMBERS UNTIL THE WEEKLY/BI-WEEKLY POSTS ARE IN ORDER. No excuses. You've seen that advertisement about the Yamapi community. Go there, instead, to see what he's up to at the moment. If I see any posts about any ex-members, they will be removed.
I also need volunteers regarding updates about our ex-members and in case I'm unable to make a post. I'm thinking of either having you guys send updates to the news_jpop email or to my (sumairu) inbox. I know I've mentioned that mods at other communities will be making weekly posts, similar to what tegomassmatsuri has been doing, but I don't want to give them even more responsibilities as it is. So I will be making these weekly posts instead. There will also be a new tag, which will be added along to the tags we've been using regarding our ex-members.
As for the layout contest, I still need to find out what's going on so I will most definitely check up on that as I have promised in the comments from my previous mod post.
I hope this post is simple and clear for you all. If you are confused about anything, I encourage you to leave a comment! I've been a little stressed out at work and needed to laze around for a bit, but I haven't stopped thinking about this community at all. I do apologize for taking longer than a week to figure this out. I needed to get as many votes and comments as I can to figure out what to do. I know I can't satisfy you all and I'm sorry if I didn't meet your expectations. But there's just so many members to this community, and if I had magical powers, I would've tried to accomodate you all. Unfortunately, I cannot, and that's the reality to it.
Alright, that's all I have to say. Hope to hear from you guys soon! :) Can't wait for our boys to make a comeback!
EDIT #2: As you can already see, changes are on the way. Most importantly, all of the graphics have been updated. I hope you guys can understand the header because I think it's absolutely adorable (they're spelling out 'N E W S')!! Anyhow, I just need to organize the ex-members posts, which shouldn't be a problem. I need volunteers to send me updates about ex-members! Send them to email@example.com! Thank you!
First and foremost, I would like to apologize for my lack of presence and responsibility for this community. I would say "life got in the way!" and use it as an excuse. But there is no excuse for my absence. I have been quietly lurking and haven't done much over the past few years simply because I was not responsible. And for that, I apologize. I promise not to be a zombie-mod anymore.
With that being said, you've clearly seen two posts regarding updates about Yamapi being posted in the NEWS community. I'm basically going to reiterate what I posted in the comments just so I can make this official.
Both sides make valid arguments and personally, I agree with both. Yamapi isn't with NEWS anymore so there shouldn't be updates about him 24/7 when he already has a community of his own (much like Tegomass).
However, I do think it is fine to post updates about Yamapi only when he is releasing a DVD/single/album or having a concert tour (& and link it to the yamapi community). Any other topics like personal interviews, magazine scans, upcoming drama roles etc. should be kept at the Yamapi community since I don't think a lot of the fans would appreciate seeing all those un-related NEWS updates. I think there has to be some sort of compromise because I know not everybody checks other individual communities, myself included (occasionally). But at the same time, Yamapi has been a huge part of NEWS since the very beginning so I don't think it's fair for other fans to just quickly shut him off like that. Debates & compromises aside, emotions have to be taken into consideration as well. A lot of our international fans rely on this community for updates. To tell people off, especially those who are still sensitive to the whole 'when 6 became 4' situation, is unfair in my honest opinion.
I don't think weekly updates are necessary because Yamapi is not part of NEWS anymore. I don't think we can organize this like we do with Tegomass because they're still with NEWS. But I do think it's okay to post about Yamapi when he's about to release something aka 'Announcement updates' only.
I have proposed that the mod(s) over at _yamapi should only be responsible for putting updates about Yamapi rather than having multiple fans posting multiple things at once. Others have proposed weekly-updates or do not post anything at all. Thus, I have created a post that (should) voice everyone's ideas/inputs/suggestions just so everybody's opinions taken into consideration.
I would love to hear all of your opinions and I will do my best to answer and reply to any inquiries, suggestions, constructive-criticism etc.
EDIT (Nov 18, 12:00 AM PST): I've been reading all of your comments and I would like to thank you for your insightful opinions and considerations. I might not be able to answer all of your comments (because I have work full-time so I don't have access to the computer all the time), but rest-assured I have read them all. You will be hearing from me soon! Keep them coming!
I cannot even count how many times I've gotten messages and been unable to reply because the sender has their privacy settings enabled, and finding an alternate way to contact you is just a hassle for both of us.
So please make sure you check this before you send me a PM! If you're not willing to change your settings, you can always send an email to the mod address, firstname.lastname@example.org! (:
A few changes have been made accordingly: the tags *member: nishikido ryo and *member: yamashita tomohisa have been changed to *member (former): nishikido ryo and *member (former): yamashita tomohisa. Birthday posts for the two will still be posted on a yearly basis.
I know that everyone's feeling hurt about this but I ask that you please refrain from making any posts bashing either of the two. Posts regarding either of them will not be banned, but please make sure that the content is appropriately relevant to the comm!
I've decided to hold a layout contest in order to reflect the changes of the group - and it's been approximately a year since we changed to our new one, and change is always good, right? So, rules are as follows:
♪ It must be coded using an S2 style.
♪ It must include the sidebar and links list.
♪ Any theme is fine (eg. Bloggish, Mixit, Flexible Squares etc.), but the themes that show the "Edit Tags" option right on the main page are preferred (eg. Smooth Sailing), as well as the option to view tags on the sidebar (a scrolling view is preferred).
♪ It must have news_jpop, or some variation of it, somewhere on it.
♪ It should be viewable in all resolutions without scrollbars.
♪ If you are using somebody else's stylesheet (eg. refutare), remember to give full credit, even if you edited it.
♪ A layout showing the current 4 members is highly preferred.
♪ A live preview of the layout is preferred, but you must include a screenshot image no matter what.
Please submit all your entries to email@example.com with the subject layout contest! Please let me know your username when you send in an entry as well. (:
*I can extend the deadline as needed depending on whether or not scans for magazines with the current four members come out in time, etc.
3. I haven't really been here as a mod recently and I'm so terribly sorry for that - I say this over and over again but I will do my best to get things and give this comm the attention that it needs! Thank you so much for your patience, and I sincerely apologize for it all ♥
Lastly: if you have any questions, comments or concerns over any decisions that I've made please feel free to bring them up! You can reach me either through the mod email, a PM on LJ to minamoto or even a comment on whatever post I've made about the latest decisions or whatever. And especially, if you have any issues about the way I've dealt with this situation, please bring them to me and I am more than willing to discuss them with you!
Thank you all for everything, and I hope you're all doing okay ♥
I leave in about 8 hours for camp, so I won't be available for 6 weeks. The community will be in the hands of natsudive , mikisans and rockthecliche while I'm away so if you have any questions, please contact them at the mod email, firstname.lastname@example.org . I'll see you guys in August!
